![]() What's NewThis addendum addresses the need to relocate two PG&E power poles within the treatment plant's construction footprint in order to accommodate construction. A third, new power pole may be required. The board will consider this matter on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
The EIR addendum studies the impacts of relocating facilities and switching to an alternative water treatment process. Both project refinements were found to have no significant impact beyond those already identified in the 2001 Final EIR. AWTP&P Fast Facts

Ensuring a Reliable Source of High-Quality Water Now and in the FutureZone 7 Water Agency's top objective is to meet 100 percent of the Tri-Valley's current and future water supply needs with high-quality water that surpasses state and federal standards. Zone 7 continually invests in maintaining and improving its treatment and distribution systems to bring clean, safe, and high-quality water to each of our customers. In March 2005, Zone 7 began the design and construction of the Altamont Water Treatment Plant and Pipeline (AWTP&P). The project will treat water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and deliver it to the Zone 7 service area. When complete, the AWTP&P will work in conjunction with Del Valle and Patterson Pass water treatment plants and the well and distribution system to meet the Tri-Valley's treated water supply needs. The plant will also improve water hardness by helping to meet more of the Valley's water demands with surface water, which does not contain as many minerals as groundwater. Later, as the region's population continues to grow and the demand for water increases, the treatment plant can be expanded to its full capacity. Because the treatment plant and pipeline are designed to meet the water demands of future planned growth in the Valley, the project is funded by developer fees. The treatment plant is expected to be in service by 2009 and will be the Tri-Valley's first new treatment plant since the Del Valle Water Treatment Plant was built in 1975. The new plant will be located in the Altamont pass area, in an unincorporated portion of eastern Alameda County. As the Tri-Valley's water wholesaler, Zone 7 supplies water to the cities of Livermore and Pleasanton, the Dublin San Ramon Services District, and the California Water Service Company.
